Welcome to the Saskia Art Images Collection
The Board of Directors of the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI) is pleased to announce that CARLI Governing and Affiliate members have access to a major collection of digital art images through CARLI's new digital library. This archive is available to CARLI Governing and Affiliate member libraries at no direct cost to the library.
CARLI has purchased the Saskia digital image archive from Scholars
Resource. For more information, see
http://www.scholarsresource.com/. The collection contains 30,000 digital images of paintings,
sculpture and architecture, including images from many important
collections: the Prado, the Kunsthistorisches Museum, the Uffizi, and
the Louvre as well as archaeological sites in Greece, Italy, Turkey and
Egypt. The images can be displayed and downloaded in high-resolution format. Additionally, the descriptive data about the images includes
references to the occurrences of these images in 19 major art history
texts, including Gardner's Art Through the Ages, 12th edition;
Understanding Art, 7th edition; Art and Ideas, 10th edition; Discovering
Art History, 4th edition.
A high-resolution TIFF version of each Saskia image is available. The TIFF can be
downloaded directly from the metadata for any image via the link in the Full Resolution metadata field. Download methods vary across browsers, but clicking or right-clicking on the link should prompt a download or "save as" option. Please note that the TIFF images are high-resolution,
and, consequently, have very large file sizes that may take several minutes to
download.
My Favorites is a cookie-based browser feature within CONTENTdm for users to save images and
work with them. Users may wish to save their selected My Favorites images for later use. A thumbnail
view and links to the images can be saved as a webpage. Use the "Save as Web Page"
option from My Favorites to create the page, then save the .html file to your computer.

Users may wish to import their My Favorites images directly into a PowerPoint
presentation. This can be accomplished using the CONTENTdm PowerPoint Plug-in.
The plug-in must be installed by the user on his or her computer.

Download the PowerPoint Plug-in (For best results, right click and choose "Save As" to download the file.)
To browse the collection, click "browse" from the menu bar at the top of the page.
To see images in the collection that are present in a specific textbook, select the title from the dropdown list and click "go".
CARLI Digital Collections Saskia Art Images Collection Rights and Usage Information
"Authorized Users" means Licensee and Authorized Sites authorized to
provide
on-site access to the Licensed Software to employees, students,
registered and
walk-in patrons, and other persons affiliated with, or permitted to use
the facilities
of any Authorized Site. Any Authorized Site is authorized to provide remote
access to the Licensed Software under security conditions adequate to
ensure that
only users specifically granted access under this Agreement shall be
authenticated
and authorized, and that individuals that are not parties to this
Agreement are excluded.
"Permitted Use" means the use of Licensed Software by Authorized
Users for
educational purposes including instruction, study, or personal research and
training. Authorized users may search the Licensed Software, view,
retrieve and
display data contained therein; print data resulting from searches and make
limited copies of such printed results; download data obtained from
searches; and
e-mail data obtained from searches. Authorized Sites may use a reasonable
portion of the Licensed Software in the preparation of Course Packs and in a
program of E-reserves.
The Licensed Software may not be used for preparation of any
publication,
scholarly or otherwise; or for any purpose other than teaching or research.
Publication of an image from the Licensed Software requires a separate
license
from Saskia.
Licensee agrees not to resell, lease, transfer, sub-license or
otherwise distribute a
copy of the Licensed Software, or any image taken from the Licensed
Software,
in whole or in part.
