About this Collection

Collection Description

The Bloomington-Normal Local History Resources collection features selected images from the Bloomington Public Library's Illinois Collection Picture File relating to the history of the City of Bloomington, the Town of Normal, as well as McLean County and its communities. While some images are directly related to our local history, many images have indirect, yet highly relevant connections with the local area.

The goals of the collection are to preserve individual items in an electronic format; to provide keyword and subject searchability to the Picture File; and to provide global public access to historical, primary resource material on the Bloomington-Normal area.

The resource will be of use to many different audiences: genealogists; local historians; students (middle school through college); and artists, journalists and writers. Information culled from the database will find its use in researching Bloomington-Normal families, famous people with connections to the area, local culture and costume of a historical nature, local buildings and schools, older homes in the Bloomington-Normal area, and events from the past.

This project was a collaboration between The Ames Library at Illinois Wesleyan University and the Bloomington Public Library.
