Florence and Marion Bird Over 900 handwritten letters between IWU alumna Florence Ralph ('30) and Marion T. Bird are contained in this collection. The letters cover a wide range of topics from faith to politics, school activities, local events, family and more -- all the details young people might share during a long courtship. After they married, they raised four children who also graduated from college, and two went on to earn doctorates. The family helped found (and build) Alum Rock United Methodist Church in San Jose, California.

After Marion retired from teaching mathematics at San Jose State University, Florence and Marion Bird traveled the world, volunteered in the church and community, and wrote more letters, this time to children and grandchildren.
