No print 2004 . West side of the square north of Hainline Way . Ford Hopkins was a Macomb landmark from May 15 , 1930 , until May 24 , 2011 . Originally owned by John N . ‘Newt’ Albright , the drugstore passed on to his son John N . 'Jay ' Albright Jr in 1963 at John Albright Sr's retirement , and then was purchased by Rick Crossett in 1987 . Ford Hopkins was a chain of drugstores that began in 1930 , with 300 locations in Illinois , Iowa and Indiana . At one time the soda fountain counter had been made of marble . According to a Macomb Daily Journal article from 1987 , when the state started setting sanitary regulations , they converted the counter to stainless steel .
