"The most notable development in the Colmar area was the drilling of oil wells , which started in the second decade of the twentieth century and expanded through much of the southwest corner of the county . This photograph shows the rig on the Hoing land , one mile east of Colmar , that drilled the first producing well , which came in on April 30 , 1914 .
