Street scenes throughout Chicago from the view of a new photographer to the city. For Feng Liu, who came here from Singapore in 1999, Chicago is America. Fascinated by a new culture, Liu has taken to the streets of Chicago with a fresh perspective on our way of life."To me, the culture is new and interesting" he says."We can spread the language of all life and being from country to country and from person to person. Photography's universal comprehensibility erases the boundaries of language."
Born in Shanghai, Liu moved to Chicago's Northwest Side for his job as a quality engineer. But it's in his spare time that he dives into the American scene, capturing the faces and places that are new to him. Liu has carved a niche with CITY 2000 as one of the project's pure street photographers. His only assignment: venturing out into the city and capturing the sights as an eyewitness."
These pictures tell his story as well as ours.
