Description
This is part 1 of a recording entitled "MacGowran Speaking Beckett " in which Irish actor Jack MacGowran reads excerpts from various novels , plays , and short stories of Irish writer Samuel Beckett . The recording features John S . Beckett playing the harmonium , Edward Beckett playing flute , and Samuel Beckett playing the gong . This recording was transferred to reel-to-reel tape from the original LP vinyl record on March 13 , 1967 . The record was given by Samuel Beckett to Oxford University poet Francis Warner as a farewell gift for Warner's first visit to the United States . Warner was at Southern Illinois University Carbondale at the time of the record-to-tape transfer . The vinyl record was originally issued in 1966 by Claddagh Records Ltd of Dublin , Ireland .
