‘Wingless Victory’ Opens Tonight
A young American salior horrifies his family by returning from a voyage with a Celebes wife tonight on the Southern Playhouse stage, as the Players present Maxwell Anderson’s tragedy, “Wingless Victory.”
Directed by Sherwin Abrams, associate professor of theatre, the play will run tonight through Sunday, and Tuesday through Saturday, with each performance starting at 8 p.m.
A cast of 15 will present the powerful drama about narrow- mindedness in a small New England town.

Cast Breakdown
Starring are: Nancy Longwell, Herrin, and Louise Gordon, Chicago, alternating the role of Mrs. McQueston and Oparre; Victor Cook of East St. Louis as the Rev. Phineas MtQueston; Roger Long, Decatur, as Ruel McQueston and James Kaps, Berwyn, as JareS Mungo.
Also in the cast are Eleanor Guerin, Arlington, Va; Bill Bourns, Salem; Jo McCord, Watseka; Kathleen Whitelock, Metropolis; Philip Dougherty, Des Plaines; Jince Packard, Morton Grove; Allan Rothman, St. Louis; Janet Moomey, Decatur; Judy Helton, Carbondale; and Neil Newlon, Galesiurg.
Darwin Payne, former staff member and technical director at the University of British Columbia, is executing the sets.
Productions previously staged here by Abrams include: “A Streetcar Named Desire,”“Diary of Anne Frank,”“Picnic” and “Lady From the
Sea.”
Tickets are on sale weekdays at the Playhouse box office 10-11 a.m. and 3-4 p.m. They also will be available at the box office prior to each performance. Admission is $1.
