Church History

In Anchor, Methodists were worshipping at the Prairie Chapel outside of town near the Prairie Chapel cemetery, until the building was moved in 1890 to the corner lot that later saw a new church for the community. The congregation was part of the Raritan Circuit. Because the small town could not support two churches, the Anchor Christian and Anchor MEC joined to form 1 congregation in 1911, which became affiliated with the United Brethren. When Pastor Hague arrived in 1918, the congregation was two years into constructing a church building, which was completed in five years and used until 1997.

The congregation enjoyed a church orchestra for seven years, organized by Rev. Schisler. A parsonage was purchased in 1924 and sold in 1973.

Due to declining membership, the congregation held their last worship service Dec 31, 1996. The church was sold to a private party.
