The main focus ot the group is to, work on letter wrriting campaigns on behalt ot political prisoners and to raise aareness amng cllege students about these~itn justices in our w~rld. The Illinois We'tslevan chapter ot :\n-~estv, Intrnational ~as founded in March ot 192. As a itcglingg rolp, their tocus is on membership and aareness acti\ ities in order to torm a large constitu~nc on this campus. The more letters w\ritten on behalt ot a particular prisoner, thle more likely he she will begin to receie better treatment and possibly treedom. The letter writing capaigns really work; thousands oti prisoners ha e been treed, wLho might otherise have died or remained imprisoned. "Ligiht another candle. Feed the tire ot hope. Support the tight for human rights". G. L. . W., Gays and Lesbians ot Weslean, began their organi/ation in early Mlarch oti 1'92. 1heir meetings ~ere opened to the entire campus, regardless ot seual orinttion By the enld ot their tirst mnth, the mnemers ot the groupLI were orgaiing the tirst annual Gay! and Lesbian Awzarne~ss We~ek on the Weslevan campus. The group is composed ot students concerned ~ith making the campus awzare ot the rights and presence ot gay and lesbian studc'nts w\ithin the Wteslev\an community. On the whole, the group has mnet ~ith c'normous suIpport tromI1 thle student body and at great deal cit interest in the evcnts the groulp has pla~ndc. G;ols include addressing secual orientation in Xcslevan's~ atirmativec aIction policy, the tormation of a class about the contributions otf gay' and lesbian figures in history, a phone line resource for thec campus, and AID)S ed ucation.
