Illinois Wesleyan ALL -OUT FOR CAMPUS CHESTI PICK 'BEAUTY AND BEAST' SATURDAY BLOOMINGTON, ILLINOIS, WEDNESDAY, MARCH 22, 1950 Raise in Tuition To Take Effect According to Dr. Merrill J. Holmes, president, there will be a tuition increase of $10 a se-mester beginning with the fal semester of 1950. There will be no increase in the School of Mu-sic. Dr. Holmes explained at a recent Student Union meeting why the increase is necessary. According to Dr. Holmes, the increase in tuition will cover only a gap in the budget, which must be balanced. The remainder of the money needed will have to be gotten from two times as many gifts to the unversity as in the past year. The tuition in-crease comes by action of a com-mittee of trustees. Illinois Wes-leyan is not out of line in tuition rates as compared to universities and colleges in this district, which is proven by the following list: Bradley, $400; Augustana, $390; Monmouth, $400; Illinois Tech, $550; Beloit, $495; Illinois college; $390; Millikin, $370/$460; DePauw, $450; Lake Forest, $500; Wheaton, $400. A domitory rent increase will also go into effect next fall. Pfeiffer Hall and Magill Hall will be increased from $100 to $120 a semester. All other dorms will be increased to $100, with the ex-ception of DeMonte Lodge, which will remain the same. Sprin Vacation Wil Be Extended A decision was made by the University Council last week,to extend the Spring vacation until Tuesday, April 11, at 8 a.m. The reason for this decision was that students who live far away may have an opportunity to spend Easter with their families, rather than on a train headed for Bloomington. President Holmes stated that next year classes would be dis-missed at noon on Good Friday for Spring vacation. DARRRELL P1ERSOL (on floor) is shown above with his committee which is planning the an-nual Campus Chest Carnival, which will be held Saturday night in the Memorial Center.
