Gonna Build a Mountain Great Day No Man Is an Island I Believe The Eagle For the Mixed Chorus : Till skogs en liten fagel flog . . . Onward Ye Peoples - Sibelius Climb Ev'ry Mountain Tonerna Dear Land of Home - Sibelius Arr. Arr. Arr. J. Wetterling Bertil Lindsjo Herman Palm Hugo A.lfven Ivar Wideen C. Kuntze Norman Leyden Wayne Spies Wayne Spies Arr. Wayne Spies Noble Cain Otto Lindblad Arr. C. Lefebvre Arr. Ed Lojeski Arr. Robert Read Arr. Robert Read The music will be held in a royal blue, three ring folder which will be forwarded to the chorus members by the undersigned. If not received by March 1, please inform me c/o Musiktidning. Annetta and Phil Anderson will distribute the music for the Ladies Assembly. Martin Ahlm. The first organizational meeting of the 1990 Portland : Convention Committee was held Wednesday, January 25 at the beautiful subur-ban home of Jerry and Jody Jones. What's definite at this time is that the headquarters hotel will be the Marriott in downtown Portland, the dates will be Wednesday, July 4 through Sunday, July 8, 1990'. This is the same hotel that served the Western Division so well for its 1984 Convention. This undertaking is, of course, a joint endeavor of the Scandinavian Male Chorus and Scandia Ladies Chorus, and will be co-chaired by Henry "Hank" Granat (honorary president of the AUSS) and his daughter, currently president of the Ladies Chorus, Jody Jones. A fund-raising event in the form (Continued on page 2) Birds Share Work Load For the Eastern Division Verdandi singers were very proud to have one of our long time members, Al Bird, elected to the post of president of the Eastern Division of the AUSS at the Boston Convention last July. Alfred Bird was born in Providence, RI, March 10, 1924. His father, Samuel N. Bird, was from Worcestershire, England, and his mother, Anna S. Wickstrom, was born in Providence. Her parents were Sophia (Johnson) Wickstrom and Alfred Wickstrom. Al was introduced to Verdandi in 1952 by Dick Anderson, our oldest singer, and fitted right into the second bass section with his fine resonant voice. He sang in church choirs and is presently deacon and vice president of Knotty Oak Baptist Church where he is in the choir and sings duets with his lovely and tal-ented wife, Marion. He retired in 1986 from the Indus-trial Machine Corporation where he was their inval-uable chief engineer. Al swings a mean golf club and 11 Eastern Division President Al Bird with his wife., Marion, Eastern Division treasurer,, and daughter Heather, also a singer. goes fishing whenever he can tear himself away from fixing Volkswagens. He has held many offices in Verdandi in which his analytical and common sense mind has solved many problems; financial secretary, vice president, president, (Continued on page 3)
