Official Journal of the American Union of Swedish Singers VOL. LII CHICAGO, ILL., SEPTEMBER, 1958 No. 7 A Message trom President Rickan Let my first words be those of gratitude to all delegates who had a part in re-electing me President of the A.U.S.S. I assure you that I was touched by your demonstration of confidence. I could not help but feel assured that the ac-complishments of the previous four years were appreciated. I feel very deeply the responsibilities that rests upon me in this position, therefore my one ambition is to have our organization continue to retain its high standard, an organization in which we singers can be proud to be mem-bers. I am certain you will all agree our recent convention demonstrated just that. Therefore it is a great honor to be its president. There are trying days when all qualities of constructive leadership are put to test, therefore I am under no illu-sions. While I am very happy over this wonderful demon-stration of confidence, I am mindful of all the duties and obligations this office holds, realizing fully the ensuing four years are going to be a continuous contest, yet I have complete confidence despite my own limitations that this administration will measure up to our past record and carry forward the banner of the A.U.S.S. I renew all promises I made at the beginning of my first term of office; I will apply myself, God willing, to do the task the best I can. At this time I also wish to express my sincere thanks and appreciation for a job well done to the Scandia Male Chorus Convention Committee and its very able leaders, Brother Knute Borg and Mrs. Eric Sholund including her ladies for such a brilliant exhibit of intensive planning and hard work. A convention so prominent can only be written into the A.U.S.S. records as one of the best. Med Sangarhalsning, Gustaf E. Rickan The mighty chorus of A.U.S.S. at the Grand Concert in the Tabernacle, Salt Lake City, Utah, June 27, 1958
