"11 0990 1 HO so£:i# -yd aoayyH "N SST 06/31: /6/ 330 Official Journal of the American Union of Swedish Singer* (USPS 368-840) Vol. LXXXIV CHICAGO IL., OCTOBER, 1990 No. 8 Meet Ken Anderson, New AUSS President, 53 Years a Singer Former AUSS vice president . . . former Western Division president . . . born in Portland of Swedish parents . . . 53 years a singer — all of these things describe Ken Anderson, elected in July at the Portland Convention to a two-year term as AUSS president. In fact, it was 53 years ago in Sep-tember that Ken started singing with the Portland Swedish Male Chorus at the tender age of 14. This chorus, more recently known as the Scandina-vian Male Chorus, was and is an An-derson family affair. It started with his father, Alfred, in 1927, and later in-cluded Ken's brothers Paul and Bob. Both Ken and Paul remain very active, with Ken as chorus president during this Convention year. It is not surprising that Alfred re-tired as a singer in 1978 since, after thoroughly enjoying this year's Con-vention, he celebrated his 101st birth-day on September 22. He came to North America at the age of 21 from near Harnosand on the Angermanal-ven. He met Ken's mother, whose maiden name was Mia Falldin, while traveling through Portland. She came from a small island near Sundsvall. Ken served two terms as president of the Western Division from 1975 to 1979. While stepping up from vice president to president, Ken Anderson was pleased to welcome to the Board for the first time: Secretary—Oscar Anderson, long time secretary of the Scandinavian Male Chorus in Portland.
