Vocal Touch Helps Hokanson Celebrate Saturday, March 16 was a special day for the Eastern Division as singers representing a number of the men's choruses gathered at the home of Seth Hokanson in East Granby, CT, to cele-brate his 81st birthday. Under the fine directing of George Fuchs, we serenaded Seth with a num-ber of old favorites including Klara stjiirna, Vackra sky, Naar Fjordene Blaaner, Halsa dem darhemma. Let There Be Music, Dear Land of Home, Shenandoah, and Till mitt hem, with Sam Carlson doing the solo on the latter. We gathered at the East Granby Commurfty Center for a short-vvarmup SETH HOKANSON Serenaded on 81st Birthday and about 2:45 p.m. were able to ar-rive at Seth's completely without his knowledge until we announced our presence with a rousing version of Standar sang. We presented Seth with cards from almost every chorus in the AUSS, a letter of congratulations from AUSS (Continued on page 2) Chicago "04<JWH/ For Our 100th Anniversory Chef Makes Westin Special "A hotel is only as special as its people care to make it." Lustenberger, a native of Switzer-land, gives pain's taking care to all facets of the hotel's culinary opera-tions, including the Lion Bar and Grill, and the Chelsea Restaurant as well as (Continued on pagj 2) Detroit Choruses Preparing For Nebraska Trip in June Solid concert performances often lead to future engagements for AUSS cho-ruses, but the Scandia Women's Chorus and the Arpi Male Chorus of Detroit had the unique experience of being asked to sing 750 miles away and eight months into the future. Somehow it all sounded so good that both choruses are preparing for the trip to appear in Oak-land, NE, next June 1 and 2. Three delegates, from Oakland ex-tended the invitation after hearing the CHEF JOHAN LUSTENBERGER One of Chicago Westin's Special People PREPARING DETROIT PANCAKES Diana Sparks (r), Ingrid Anderson two choruses perform at the Swedish Council of America meeting last Oc-tober in Dearborn, MI. Oakland, which bills itself as the Swedish capital of Nebraska, stages a Swedish festival each year, which is where the two De-troit choruses come in. Oakland is halfway, north and south, along the 95 miles that separate Omaha and Sioux City, IA, and is just inside the Nebraska border. It comes as no surprise that the area's population has Swedish roots since both Omaha and (Continued on page 2)
