Summary

These working files are comprised of records documenting the actions, activities, and responses to issues of race in Unitarian, Universalist, and Unitarian Universalist congregations from the 19th and 20th centuries. The congregations covered represent 24 states in the US and 2 Canadian provinces. Materials include congregational newsletters, directories, photographs, interview transcripts, newspaper clippings, sermons, flyers and other ephemera. As of November 7, 2016 these working files represent primarily the accumulated research of Rev. Dr. Mark Morrison-Reed in conjunction with students in his course, "African-Americans and the Unitarians, Universalists, and Unitarian Universalists" at Meadville Lombard Theological School. Future acquisitions may continue to come from Rev. Dr. Morrison-Reed or from other donors, to be determined.
