Bruce Cheadle and his wife Hazel

Bruce Cheadle (1897-1990) was a life-long resident of Lockport, IL, and his significant involvement with the community as a civic leader earned him the nickname "Mr. Lockport." His parents – Thomas Cheadle and May L. Deeming – were also prominent Lockport residents.

Mr. Cheadle donated his papers to the Illinois and Michigan Canal Collection (now the Howard and Lois Adelmann Regional History Collection) at Lewis University in 1983.

This digital collection makes available a selection of the papers and photographs donated to the collection as they related to the Cheadle and Deeming families. The collection includes newspaper clippings, papers and photographs concerning Bruce Cheadle and various family members, including his parents, grandparents Richard and Ellen (McKee) Cheadle, grandparents Arthur and Anna (Smith) Deeming, uncle Charles Cheadle, brother Arthur Cheadle and sister Anna Cheadle, who passed away at the age of nineteen in 1923.

The Bruce Cheadle Papers is a valuable source of information about Lockport, IL in the 19th and 20th centuries.
