The Arts Gala events were fundraisers to benefit Lewis University's Arts & Ideas program. The first Arts Gala was hosted in 1988. From 1988 to the final Arts Gala in 2012, the event was held annually and had a different theme each year including "Harbor Lights," "Starstruck," "On the Red Carpet" and "Rhythm of the Rainforest."

This collection contains invitations, fliers, postcard reminders, programs, raffle tickets, photographs and news releases related to the annual event, dinner and St. Genesius Awards ceremonies. Throughout the years, prominent individuals appear in the photographs and seating charts including Brother James Gaffney, FSC, Mohra Gavankar, Elaine Ruettiger, Carol Wassberg, Keith White, Brother Paul French, FSC, Chet Kondratowicz, the Limachers, and the Tonellis.

The St. Genesius Award, named in honor of the saint for dramatics and theater, was awarded to an individual or group for their contributions to the arts in the Joliet and Chicagoland areas. The first St. Genesius Award was given in 1986, then annually from 1988 to 2012. Winners included Billie Limacher in 1989, Juliet King in 1996, and the Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra (MYSO) in 2009.

The original materials are preserved in the Brother Ambrose Groble, FSC, Archives of Lewis University.
