This collection represents the correspondence between Carl Lorimer, a student at Augustana Theological Seminary in Rock Island, Illinois and Mabel Anderson, a teacher in Ottumwa, Iowa, 1907-1911. Carl and Mabel met through mutual friends when Carl's brother, A. T. Lorimer, graduated from the Seminary in May of 1907. The correspondence that follows this encounter sheds light on how their friendship evolved into a courtship and marriage in 1911. In addition, Carl's letters depict his life as a seminary student, his summer obligations with various Lutheran churches, their mutual friends, and other campus activities. He was involved with the student Republicans and wrote for the student newspaper, The Observer. Mabel writes about her work as a teacher in Ottumwa, church activities she participates in, and encounters she has with common friends and family members.
