THE DECATURIAN Volume 3 Decatur, III., December, 1905 Number 4 DR. FERGUSON IS DEAD Dr. W. T. Ferguson, Financial Agent of the College Commission entrusted with the work of raising endowment funds for The James Court«"'\ of Hei .il< Millikin Uni\cr.sit\, died at Petersburg, III., on Friday, Dec. 8, 1905. He was born at Bloom- field, Indiana, on July 28, 1836; received his education in the public schools of Bloomfield and in the Cumberland Presbyterian Academy at Bainbridge. He professed religion at the age of 17 and entered upon his first ministry at Ellettsville. After serving that church a few months, he en¬ tered upon the pastorate of the church at Bain¬ bridge in November, 1861. In 1863, he took charge of the churches at Groveland and New Winchester, serving them about seven years. In 1870 he was invited to the pastorate of the church at Martinsville and served it with great acceptance until 1885. During this pastorate, the congregation grew rapidly in numbers and in influence in the community. The present beautiful and commodious edi¬ fice was erected during that time. /\fter leaving Martinsville he served the churches at Oakland and Rardin, Illinois, one year, Enfield one year, Grayville three years, and Petersburg five years. At the last named place the fine church building was enlarged and improved and the church, greatly strengthened. While there he assisted materially in in¬ creasing the endowment fund of Lincoln- University, and in recognition of his eminent services to the church and to the nation was at that time honored by the award of the degree of Doctor of Divinity by the University. He was soon after called to the pastorate of the church at Bowling Green, Kentucky, where he remained seven years in successful service.
