Ottumwa, Iowa. Sep. 8, 1909. Dear "Kalle":- It seemed so nice to come home last evening and find besides my contract, a dandy letter and two postals all from you. They didn't deliver mail on Monday you know and the folks forgot to go after it, so I got it all at once. I'm so glad you enjoyed your visit, I'm sure I did. I was afraid you would feel that you had had a rather poky time of it. Of course you wouldn't tell me that if you had. I only wish you could have stayed over Sunday, for it certainly was a great day. Rev. Sodergren's preaching was fine, especially in the evening his subject then was "music." The choir sand better than on Friday eve. Mr. Swanson of Stanton also sand a solo. The church was packed at both services. After the eve. service most of the choir member and a few others went down to Johnson's for awhile. We talked, sand and ate candy until about 10:30 then made for home. Prof Johnson and Mr. Samuelson left for R.I. that night. What do you know about it! MR. S. asked me if I wouldn't correspond with him, but I told him I was no good at it, but might send him some postals. Indeed we B.U.G.S.'s didn't have a picnic, for one thing it poured down rain, and then we school ma'ams had to teach all day. That made me almost cross, for about all we could do was to kill time. I didn't get to keep that room I was assigned to, nor the one above that but I have the fifth room, and have the last part of second and last part of third grades. That was a little higher than I expected but hope I shall like it when I get used to it, I think I shall. I have 45 pupils and the larger number are boys, some are quite large, too, so I have just about all I can manage. The teacher who had had the room I was assigned to had fun there for five years and he didn't want to give it up, the same was true of the teacher in the next room, they both set up a howl and got their old rooms back, that's why I was given the room I have. I should think you would have had lots to do Saturday afternoon and eve. I was busy too, I guess. I worked at the store from 12 A.M. until 9 P.M. I was so sleepy awhile in the afternoon I could hardly see straight. This week there is nothing going on, for a wonder, so I've been home every eve. so far + expect to be the remaining ones. I've had school work to do though. So you had fried chicken for dinner did you? You didn't deserve any, I just wish Mrs. Peterson could have seen how cruelly you treated "the poor innocent things" last Friday afternoon, and I just know she wouldn't have given you a single taste. There is a wedding down on the next corner this eve. so all the youngsters went to see if they could get their eyes full. I was too lazy to go, and too dignified, ahem! I don't think it would hurt me to be a little more dignified, for I acted so "crazy" part of the time when you were here that it's a wonder you want me for a friend. But really, Carl, I think it was best that you didn't say anything about a certain question, for you might have said something that you would regret later. I do think we have had some fine times together, though + hope we will again. Sincerely Mabel
